3.5 out of 5 stars

Bill Bryson is often considered the master of the Travel Narrative.  A Walk in the Woods is a Travel Narrative of his attempt on the 2,147 mile Appalachian trail (it was not a successful trip).

We would consider this book good for somebody who is NOT intimately familiar with Hiking and Backpacking.  This book has been on numerous Bestseller lists and many of those readers would give it 4-4.5 stars.

Unfortunately those of us who are passionate about Hiking and Backpacking will be disappointed with this book.  We give it 3.5 stars (from the viewpoint of a hiker).
