Although this book was written in 1985 it is still sold in Book Stores and Outdoor stores everywhere. There are few people I know who have not read it. This book it is very informative and also humorous.

As it is dated, please don't use it as a "Gear Guide", but use is for general Backpacking information.

While we would not recommend it as the only book to read if you are interested in learning Backpacking, we would recommend it. It gets 4 stars.
